Bắc Ninh was taken on March 12, 1884, by the Tonkin Expeditionary Force.
The French victory led to the signing of the Tientsin Agreement in May and the Treaty of Hue in June.

The Bắc Ninh Campaign, which ran from 6 March to 24 March 1884, was a French ground offensive against Chinese troops of the Kuang-Si Army in northern Vietnam during the Tonkin Campaign (1883–1886).
